For more than twenty years, PSYCROPTIC has remained one of the most respected and technically accomplished forces in extreme metal. Emerging from Tasmania and steadily building an international reputation through relentless touring and consistently forward-thinking releases, the band has become synonymous with precision musicianship, complex songwriting, and an uncompromising dedication to pushing the boundaries of technical death metal.
Now, PSYCROPTIC is entering a powerful new era with the release of The Pulse Of Annihilation, arriving July 17th via Metal Blade Records. The album marks the band’s first full-length release with the legendary label, representing a natural partnership between one of modern extreme metal’s most innovative acts and a company that has helped shape the genre’s legacy for decades.
At the center of PSYCROPTIC’s evolution is guitarist and primary songwriter Joe Haley, whose approach to composition continues to grow more refined and dynamic with each release. While the band’s trademark technical intensity remains firmly intact, The Pulse Of Annihilation showcases a more deliberate sense of structure, pacing, and atmosphere. The riffs hit harder, transitions feel more fluid, and each song unfolds with a calculated sense of tension and release. Rather than relying solely on speed and complexity, the album demonstrates a mature understanding of how space, groove, and restraint can be just as devastating as sheer aggression.

“The Pulse Of Annihilation is the culmination of everything that has come before,” says Haley. “We never force anything stylistically and just let the songs manifest of their own accord — maintaining progression while still sounding unmistakably like PSYCROPTIC. I feel this is our most epic, thrashing, technical, and groove-driven release yet.”
Adding even more depth to the album is the return of the dual-vocal attack featuring Jason Peppiatt alongside Jason Keyser of Origin. First introduced on the band’s previous album, Divine Council, the pairing once again proves to be a defining element of PSYCROPTIC’s sound. Peppiatt’s commanding growls and Keyser’s razor-sharp delivery create a fierce contrast that enhances the record’s intensity while complementing the band’s intricate instrumentation. Together, the two vocalists bring an added sense of chaos and urgency that elevates the material without overshadowing the precision of the musicianship beneath it.
The album’s first single, “Gathering A Venomous Herd,” immediately sets the tone for what listeners can expect from The Pulse Of Annihilation. Unrelenting from start to finish, the track delivers a barrage of razor-edged riffs, crushing grooves, and controlled aggression that perfectly captures the band’s evolution.
“This one’s a tricky one and a total wrist-splitter,” Haley explains. “It’s a massive, non-stop riff fest.”
Bassist Todd Stern agrees, emphasizing the track’s undeniable groove and live energy. “It’s a knuckle-dragger,” he says. “I love when we can settle into this kind of tempo. Some of my favorite PSYCROPTIC songs have that bounce to them that creates endless headbanging opportunities and leaves room for huge vocal moments. Plus, there’s that wild noodly section in the middle with the guitar ring-out that really gives the song its own personality.”
With The Pulse Of Annihilation, PSYCROPTIC is not simply revisiting the strengths that earned them their reputation — they are sharpening them. The album stands as a statement of intent from a band that continues to evolve without compromising the intensity, technicality, or identity that has defined them from the beginning. Decades into their career, PSYCROPTIC remains as focused, inventive, and devastating as ever.

Produced once again by Haley at his Crawlspace Productions studio, The Pulse Of Annihilation reinforces PSYCROPTIC’s commitment to sonic autonomy. The production balances clarity and weight. Haley’s brother and co-founder, Dave Haley pounds the drums with surgical precision, bass frequencies anchor the harmonic movement, and guitars cut through with controlled aggression. The mix allows complexity to breathe while preserving crushing force.
