Symphonic metal icons KAMELOT are set to return to the haunting world of RavenHill Asylum with their upcoming new album, Dark Asylum, arriving August 28 through Napalm Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has officially launched pre-orders for the album and confirmed that the Dark Asylum World Tour will begin the very same day the record is released.
More than thirty years into their career, KAMELOT continues to stand among the most respected and influential names in symphonic metal. Known for blending cinematic storytelling, massive melodies, and emotionally charged songwriting with explosive live performances, the band has consistently evolved while remaining unmistakably true to their sound. With fourteen studio albums now behind them — including chart-topping releases such as Haven, The Shadow Theory, and The Awakening — KAMELOT shows no signs of slowing down.
Set within a dark Neo-Victorian landscape, Dark Asylum pulls listeners through the towering gates of RavenHill Asylum, a once-grand cathedral transformed into a disturbing institution where science, religion, fear, and madness collide. The album unfolds as a deeply immersive concept piece, exploring identity, psychological struggle, and the fragile line separating despair from redemption.
KAMELOT founder and guitarist Thomas Youngblood describes the record as a journey through fractured memories and emotional darkness.
“Dark Asylum follows a soul trapped inside a world of masks, broken memories, and psychological torment while wandering the endless halls of RavenHill in search of truth, identity, and redemption,” explains Youngblood. “What begins as a descent into darkness slowly transforms into a path toward awakening. Beneath the fear and chaos lies hope, healing, and ultimately a way out of the shadows into Sanctuary.”
Frontman Tommy Karevik expands further on the album’s emotional depth and cinematic direction.
“Dark Asylum invites listeners into the hidden chambers of the human mind,” says Karevik. “Every door reveals a different story, but they’re all connected. At its core, the album explores the constant tension between fear and hope, destruction and healing, chaos and peace. It reflects the struggle to remain sane in a cold world while realizing that salvation is something we already carry within ourselves.”
That emotional and conceptual depth is matched by the album’s expansive musical direction. KAMELOT pushes further into cinematic and atmospheric territory throughout Dark Asylum, embracing darker orchestral textures and haunting soundscapes while still delivering the soaring hooks and powerful choruses that have defined the band for decades.
Longtime producer Sascha Paeth once again returns behind the boards, joined by Jacob Hansen, who handled mixing and mastering duties. Together, the production team helps bring RavenHill’s eerie atmosphere vividly to life, balancing massive symphonic arrangements with the heaviness and precision fans expect from KAMELOT.

“The imagery was intentionally painted with delicate strokes,” Karevik adds. “We wanted to capture the fine line between beauty and disorder — the way chaos and tranquility can exist in the same space. The result feels unsettling at times, but also deeply human. It’s a journey through darkness that’s ultimately searching for light.”
The album also features an impressive lineup of guest appearances that further expand the world of RavenHill. Familiar voices and characters emerge throughout the record, including Avantasia mastermind Tobias Sammet, Lea-Sophie Fischer of Eluveitie, Clémentine Delauney of Visions of Atlantis, Decessus vocalist and current Miss World Chile Ignacia Fernández, along with Rannveig Sif Sigurðardóttir, Sólveig Sara Leupold, and Billy King.
From the cinematic grandeur of “Ashen World” to the emotional weight of “Sanctuary” and the haunting atmosphere surrounding “Ivy, My Dear,” Dark Asylum unfolds like a dark theatrical experience — layered with orchestral arrangements, dramatic storytelling, and moments of both crushing intensity and fragile beauty.
