What can you say about the almighty Meshuggah that hasn’t been said already? Opening night of the Immutable Tour was one of the greatest things I’ve experienced. It was excellent to see Fredrik Thorendal back on stage. The last time I saw them, they had the masterful Per Nilsson pulling guitar duty, and that was excellent, but it wasn’t Fredrik. I’ve seen them probably a half dozen or more times over the years, and they’re honestly, their one of the tightest live bands I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing perform.
I remember the first time I heard them, it was on the “Death is Just the Beginning” compilation VHS from Nuclear Blast. It had their video for Terminal Illusions on it, and from the moment it kicked in, I was hooked! Over the years, they’ve grown so much, and yet remained who they are.
From the pounding opening of Broken Cog, through the ever popular Future Breed Machine, they never let up! I’ll admit, I was quite surprised that they dropped Bleed from the set list for this tour, but the set that they performed was flawless, and filled with exceptional songs. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see them live, do so the moment you can! It’s an experience to behold that not many bands can compare to!
